A CULTURAL PLATFORM BY GYRI SUSRUD

Where Culture Meets.

Connecting people, history, and the creative force of cultural heritage.

A platform for those who build with heritage while reaching toward something new. For cultural entrepreneurs, architects of memory, and storytellers who refuse to choose between the past and the future.

Cultural heritage is not a museum. It is the deepest source of innovation.

The Mission

A bridge between people, past, and possibility

What gives meaning is not what we build alone but rather what we build together, across time and cultures. I created this platform to be that bridge.

Connecting people
Creating spaces where cultural entrepreneurs, historians, designers, and storytellers can meet, collaborate, and grow.

Lifting voices
Curated stories, podcasts, and books that give language to what lives in the body — knowledge passed down through generations, brought into the present.

Building bridges
Between roots and ambitions. Between the past and the present. Between what was carried forward and what is being created right now.

WHERE CULTURE MEETS PEOPLE

Gyri — Founder, Cultural Historian, Designer & Consultant

Gyri is a bridge-builder. Between people and their heritage. Between the past and the present. Between the knowledge that lives in the body and the words that give it shape.

Through Gyri Design, her consultancy work, her podcasts, and her writing, she has spent her career doing one thing: making cultural heritage alive, useful, and impossible to ignore.

Based in Oslo. Working globally. Rooted always.

WHERE CULTURE MEETS HISTORY

Heritage as Foundation, Not Decoration

For architects, interior designers, hotels, and major projects that need more than visual reference — they need cultural depth. A living red thread of heritage woven through every decision, from concept to completion.

Cultural history is not ornament. When it anchors a project, it creates spaces that cannot be replicated — because they belong, profoundly, to where and when they come from.

  • Cultural-historical analysis for architecture and interiors

  • Heritage narrative development for hospitality projects

  • Material and craft tradition research

  • Storytelling that anchors space in place and time

  • Long-term advisory for renovation and new builds

WHERE CULTURE MEETS DESIGN

Gyri Design: Lived-in Norwegian Heritage

Sustainable fabrics, wallpapers, and objects rooted in the textile traditions of Norway — designed for contemporary interiors. Not pastiche. Not revival. Something that could only exist now, because of everything that came before.

Pattern as memory. Colour as landscape. Craft as intelligence passed from hand to hand across generations.

PODCAST 01

Rooted in Something Real

CONVERSATIONS WITH WOMEN WHO CREATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT

There is a kind of knowledge that cannot be learned from a book — it lives in the hands, in the memory of a place, in the patterns passed from one generation to the next. This podcast series is a celebration of the women who have built their lives and their work from exactly that kind of knowing. Intimate, honest, and deeply inspiring conversations about culture, creativity, and what it truly means to create something that belongs to you.

PODCAST 02

Whose Story Is It?

A DETECTIVE STORY ABOUT CULTURE, OWNERSHIP, AND BELONGING

When a pattern travels — across borders, across centuries, across the hands of people who never met — who does it belong to? This is a detective story with no obvious villain and no easy answers. It begins in a Norwegian mountain village in the 1800s and winds its way through history, emigration, and the fashion industry, asking the questions we rarely dare to ask out loud: who owns a tradition? And what happens when the world falls in love with something that was never theirs to take?
